Central Midlands Senior High School encourages the best in everyone

Located in Moora, only 172 kms north of Perth, Central Midlands Senior High School is a vibrant educational community, offering a wide range of academic and vocational subjects for approximately 200 students from Year 8 to Year 12.

Students at Central Midlands SHS are motivated to strive to achieve their best and to realise their potential in a values-rich environment. All students have access to innovative, flexible pathways for learning. One major attraction of the school is the small class size: a low student-to-staff ratio ensures plenty of individual attention and assistance, both in and out of the classroom.

Successful learning at Central Midlands Senior High School is achieved through the delivery of quality educational programs reflecting the phases of development and catering for individual differences. Our school plays an integral role in the local community, working collaboratively with St James Residential College co-located on the education precinct and providing 50 places for students from across the state to access our excellent educational opportunities. Strong partnerships have been brokered with local businesses to assure the continued success of our very popular Workplace Learning Program.

Testament to the determination of Central Midlands SHS staff to support students to achieve their best is the accomplishment of 100% graduation for the last seven years, placing the school second in the state on this measure. Our excellence in academic instruction was evident when, at the commencement of 2012, every student who applied for a position at university was accepted into their first choice of university.

Work on the $3.5million Trade Training Centre for Hospitality and Automotive courses has finished, enabling students to learn in industry standard environments. This prepares our students for life beyond school and gives them a competitive edge when applying for jobs. Our science laboratories have benefited from a recent upgrade and we are investing in improving online learning technology linking our school to Northam SHS and Merredin College – indicators that Central Midlands is an exciting and successful learning community. St James Residential Hostel is adjacent to Central Midlands Senior High School and works closely with the school to provide a quality boarding and educational experience. With a relatively small capacity for 50 students, St James is able to provide a supportive environment catering to students’ individual needs. Fantastic News!!! Tronox has given a grant to our school to fund two important projects. A big thankyou to Tronox for making these projects possible with over $5000 in funding.
Each of the projects is centred on the topic of Environmental Sustainability as the topic is relevant to the lives of our students living in a farming community. The projects are “hands on” allowing students to explore Science concepts learnt in the classroom with a practical application.

Transition 2014/15

Transition 2014-2015
The transition process to prepare the Year 6 and Year 7 cohorts for their entry to high school in 2015 is well underway. In first term, Mrs Johnston visited every primary school that is in our catchment zone and met all but a couple of students who will be enrolled at Central Midlands SHS in 2015. The students got the chance to meet Mrs Johnston and understand she will be looking out for them, next year.
